Arab Weather - The Red Sea International Company in the Saudi "NEOM" project signed a deal to purchase a fleet of electric flying ships with the Swedish company "Candela", in a project that is the first of its kind in the region.
The Candela P-12, the world's first electric sailboat, will join the sustainable marine transportation network in the NEOM project in the northwest of the Kingdom, Arabian Business reported on Monday.
Candela confirmed via its Instagram account: “We are pleased to announce the supply of a fleet of Candela P-12 electric ships to the NEOM project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2025.”
The company said the zero-emission fleet “will redefine maritime transport by offering frequent voyages at high speeds and low energy costs.”
The Candela P-12 is the fastest electric flying passenger ship to date, with a speed of up to 25 knots and a capacity of 20 to 30 people. It also uses 80% less energy than conventional ships, allowing it to combine long range and high speed for the first time in an electric ship.
The Candela B-12 ships were first unveiled last year and are scheduled to begin their first public transport trips in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, in the fall of 2024.
