Arab Weather - Hurricane Milton, classified as a Category 3, swept across the western coast of Florida on Wednesday evening, with wind speeds reaching 195 kilometers per hour, with heavy rains causing severe flooding.

The hurricane caused widespread destruction, with more than 120 homes damaged and about 3 million homes without power. The US National Hurricane Center reported that the hurricane made landfall near Siesta Key in the Sarasota area, resulting in significant property damage and two deaths as a result of the storm.

Tropicana Field roof destroyed

Among the notable damages caused by the hurricane was the destruction of the roof of Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team. Although the stadium was designed to withstand winds of up to 185 kilometers per hour, the hurricane's winds exceeded those expectations.

The stadium was planned to be used as a shelter.

Authorities had planned to use Tropicana Field as a shelter for hurricane victims, but the damage made that impossible. The stadium, which opened in 1990 at a cost of $138 million, was scheduled for a $1.3 billion renovation by 2028.

As rescue and relief efforts continue, authorities are working to restore power and provide assistance to affected areas. Meanwhile, the extent of damage to infrastructure and private property continues to be assessed.
