Flight MU5735 was on its way from Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, to Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong, on the border with Hong Kong, when it crashed. The plane left Kunming at 1:11 p.m., and was scheduled to land in Guangzhou. At 3:05 p.m.
FlightRadar24 data showed that the flight that crashed began a rapid descent from 7,425 feet before recovering briefly to 8,600 feet and then descended rapidly again. The last altitude tracked was 3,225 feet above sea level.
The cause of the crash, which spent six years flying, is still under investigation, as such accidents usually involve multiple factors, and experts said it was too early to draw any conclusions about the possible causes, especially in light of the scarce information available.
Weather data showed partly cloudy conditions with good visibility in Wuzhou at the time of the accident.
Investigators will search for the plane's black boxes (flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder) to get to the causes of the accident.
