ArabiaWeather.com - Ismail Qasimi - If you are looking for the most amazing islands in Malaysia , you must know Redang Island, which is located on the eastern coast of the Malay Peninsula, at a distance of 45 kilometers off the coast of Kuala Terengganu.
Redang National Park includes nine protected islands, the largest of which are scattered in the South China Sea off the coast of Terengganu. Redang is suitable for diving, snorkeling and water sports enthusiasts, but fishing is prohibited within the 3.2 km circumference of the island.
The island enjoys clear turquoise waters and has many diving sites that attract lovers of this sport and lovers of discovering marine life. The protected waters of the park abound with rich species of marine animals and plants that live in coral reefs that are only 50 feet from the beach.
The waters surrounding Redang Island contain the wrecks of two historic ships, the Prince of Wales and the Repules, which sank at the beginning of World War II, to remain witnesses to the Japanese occupation that raided the Malay states.
Pulau Redang (in Malay) is also known for its white sandy beaches, and in contrast to its backpacker-friendly neighbor Perhentian, Redang is more upmarket, with all accommodations on the island resort-based.
The island's largest beaches, Pasir Panjang, is on the eastern side and houses a cluster of resorts, and diving sites can be found to the north of Pasir Panjang.
The best time to visit Redang
Redang has a tropical climate with temperatures around 30°C and frequent but short thunderstorms. Like the rest of the east coast of Malaysia, Redang is affected by the northeast monsoon in winter, so most resorts are closed and ferry schedules are severely restricted between November and February. Thus, it is preferable to visit in the period from March to October.
