Weather of Arabia - A meteorologist paused during the live broadcast of an American channel to call his family members and warn them of a hurricane nearby, and asked them to go downstairs.

Doug Camerer, chief meteorologist for NBC Washington, was on the air last Thursday for a lengthy live weather report when the National Weather Service issued a hurricane warning near his area.

"The road takes it right over my house," Camerer said on air, holding his cell phone in hand as he stood in front of a weather map showing the storm's path, according to NPR.

The meteorologist decided to call his son in the middle of the broadcast while the cameras were rolling, advised him to go to the bedroom and wait for 15 minutes or so, then hung up the phone and went back to resume broadcasting.

"I have to warn my kids because I know what they're doing now, they're probably playing online games and they don't see it," Camerer said with a map of the storm's radar behind him. Minutes later, the hurricane warning was rescinded.

After the incident, Camerer wrote on Twitter that he had to warn his family and children alone at home, writing, "They are safe.. Thank you! A scary moment for me, I was feeling a little scared inside.”

Commenting on the incident, National Weather Service meteorologist James Morrow said: "As we do understand the risks of strong storms like this, it was encouraging to see this kind of coverage of what could have turned into a very dangerous situation."
