Arab Weather - Hurricane Milton hit the coast of Florida as a Category 3 storm, bringing destruction to the coastal region that is still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Helen. The storm swept through cities with winds exceeding 160 kilometers per hour (100 miles per hour) and caused several tornadoes to form. However, Tampa was not directly hit.
The hurricane turned south in the final moments to make landfall on Siesta Key near Sarasota, about 112 kilometers (70 miles) south of Tampa. The Tampa area remains in a severe state of emergency, with St. Petersburg recording more than 41 centimeters (16 inches) of rain, prompting the National Weather Service to issue flash flood warnings.
Tropicana Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Rays in St. Petersburg, appeared to have suffered significant damage. Television images on Wednesday evening showed the domed stadium's canvas roof torn off, while the extent of the damage inside the stadium was not immediately clear.
