Wissam Al-Hiyari, and a number of members of the German Embassy and the German Agency, GIZ, operating new energy-saving pumps at the new Al-Basateen pumping station in Al-Rusaifa District, which was replaced within the work of the German-Jordanian cooperation GIZ, the Climate Change Mitigation Project in Jordan, WaCCliM JOR is funded by the International Climate Initiative IKI of the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV), with the aim of raising the efficiency of the water supply to all areas of the Rusaifa District, reducing energy costs and serving about half a million citizens.
Abu Rawaq indicated that the WaCCLiM project replaced and installed 4 modern energy-saving pumps at the Al-Basateen pumping station, as it is estimated that annual greenhouse gas emissions will decrease by about 607 tons of carbon dioxide, which is in line with national sustainable development plans as well as saving about 1 gigawatt. In addition to reducing the energy bill of the Al-Basateen pumping station by 100,000 dinars annually, indicating that the project also included the installation of energy meters to support monitoring and evaluation of the performance of these pumps and their continuous follow-up.
He expressed the gratitude and appreciation of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation / Water Authority, the Jordanian government and the Jordanian people to all friends and donor countries for their assistance and support to the water sector, especially the German government and people, and its distinguished efforts through the Federal Ministry and the GIZ Agency to enable the management of the water sector to face challenges, especially with regard to high energy costs and reduce its costs. Confronting the burdens of Syrian refugees and the high level of water demand.
For his part, Mr. Nicholas Van Kalm, representative of the German Embassy, stressed the importance of strengthening Jordanian-German cooperation, especially in the areas of water and sanitation, especially since this cooperation has been going on for more than 65 years and has contributed to facing many challenges, especially the conditions of asylum and water security for citizens and refugees.
He stressed the continued commitment to the support provided by the German side to enable the water sector to face various circumstances, especially in light of the increasing burdens and climatic changes, expressing his hope to implement a number of projects aimed at developing the water sector and reducing energy costs.
Trevor Surig, director of water projects at the German agency GIZ, reviewed that this 3-year project to study and improve various water facilities aims to raise the efficiency of water plants, especially the new Al-Basateen water station in Al-Rusaifa District.
