The period of Saudization among the Arabs

The Gregorian year begins in January during the forty or square winter period, which ends with the end of January. The square is directly followed by the fifty-day “Saud” period , which begins with the beginning of February, as the “Saud” consists of four periods, namely:

1. Saad the Slaughterer: It was called Saad the Slaughterer, a metaphor for the severity of the cold during it, and it extends from (February 1-February 12).
2. Saad Balaa: It is called Saad Balaa because the earth swallows water through it, or for the ease of drinking water, as its temperature begins to rise and its cold decreases, and it extends from (February 12-February 25).
3. Saad Al-Saud: At this stage, the flowers ripen and bloom, and signs of the onset of spring begin to appear, and it extends from (February 25 - March 10).
4. Saad Al-Khabaya: It is called Saad Al-Khabaya because the reptiles hiding during the hibernation period begin to appear, and it extends from (March 10-March 22).

The story of the Saud period in folklore

There is a story in our popular heritage related to the reason for naming the period of Saud, where the story says that Saad was on his way to travel, so his father advised him to acquire furs and a little firewood to prevent a possible cold, so he did not listen to his father’s advice thinking that the weather would not change much during his trip, but on the way it changed The weather, cold winds blew, and rain and snow fell abundantly, and he had no choice but to slaughter his camel, which is all he owns, so that he can take shelter with her skin from the bitter cold, and when he slaughtered the camel, he was named Saad the Slaughterer .

After that, hunger struck Saad, and he found nothing in front of him except camel meat to eat, and so Saad swallowed , and after the storm ended and the sun appeared, Saad Saeed came out of his hiding place, rejoicing in his intelligence and his good behavior to save his life. He made a coat for him from the hair of the she-camel, and preserved provisions for him from the remaining meat of the camel by means of snow, so he was Saad Al-Khabaya .
