Weather of Arabia - The Egyptian Al-Ahly club officially announced its contract with the Swiss Marcel Koehler to lead the team, succeeding the Portuguese Ricardo Suarez, who was sacked after nearly two months of taking over the task.
Al-Ahly appointed Soares to succeed South African Pitso Mosimane at the end of last June, to continue for the next season, but poor performance, results and the loss of the league and cup led to his removal from his position very early.
During the last two weeks, the club has been associated with many names, especially from Germany, Switzerland and Portugal, and the shares of the Italian Eusebio Di Francesco have recently risen, but the choice finally went to Kohler, who has not worked with any team since the end of his experience with Basel at the end of August 2020.
The official website of the Cairo giant clarified that Kohler signed a contract that extends for two seasons, noting that he will be accompanied by 3 assistants, who are a coach, a load coach and a performance analyst.
Al-Ahly's technical staff will include, in addition to Koller and his three assistants, Sayed Abdel Hafeez as football director, Sami Komous as assistant coach, and Michel Yancon as goalkeeper coach, who had worked in the junior sector with the arrival of Suarez.
The 61-year-old coach will arrive in Cairo tomorrow, Saturday, to begin his mission immediately with Al-Ahly, as the team seeks next season to compensate for its failure to win any title during the 2021-2022 season, except for the African Super Cup.
Koehler has a long experience in European stadiums, where he began his coaching career in 1992 as an assistant coach to coach Christian Gross in Grasshoppers, with whom he spent his entire career as a player and won the Swiss league 7 times.
Koehler took a step forward in his career and took over the position of coach for Phil 1900 in 1997, after which he worked with several clubs, most notably Bochum and Cologne in Germany and Basel in Switzerland, but his most successful experience was with the Austrian national team.
Koehler, who played 53 international matches with Switzerland and played with it in Euro 1996, took over the leadership of the Austrian national team in November 2011 and continued with him until October 2017, and he achieved the most important achievement with him, which is qualifying for the finals of Euro 2016.
The veteran coach led Austria in 54 matches, winning 25, drawing 13 and losing 16. During his training career, he won the Swiss League twice and the German second division, along with the Swiss Cup, which is his last title.
Kohler is known for his belief in young talents and the need to push them and give them the full opportunity, and he has involved many young players during his football career, led by German striker Lukas Podolski.
Podolsky first appeared on the field at the first-team level with Cologne in November 2003 when he gained the confidence of coach Koller. The coach left after several months, but the player made his way in the stadiums until he reached the top by wearing the Bayern Munich shirt in 2006.
During his time with the Austria national team, Koller supervised the training of many stars, most notably David Alaba, Real Madrid defender, Marko Arnautovic, Bologna striker, and Aleksandar Dragovic, Serbian Red Star defender.
Aside from the Austria national team, Koehler worked with players such as Haken Yakin, Antar Yahia and Christian Fuchs during his club career.
