Weather of Arabia - A report by the World Wind Energy Council said today that electricity generation generated from wind is expected to increase globally by 50% in the next five years, with the cost of technology falling further while emerging markets lead the growth.

In its annual report on the sector, the council said that 51.3 gigawatts of new facilities were added last year, bringing the total capacity of wind electricity generation to 591 gigawatts.

The council expected the addition of more than 300 gigawatts of new capacity by 2023, led by emerging markets in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Southeast Asia, as well as increasing competition from offshore facilities to generate electricity from wind.
