Arab Weather - With the end of October approaching, many citizens in Egypt are searching for the date of the start of the application of winter time, as many are wondering about the mechanism for its application, and whether the clock will be advanced or delayed by 60 minutes.
Winter time is set to begin in Egypt on Thursday, October 31, the last Thursday of the month. This comes as part of the approved timing system that dates back to Law No. 24 of 2023, which stipulates that winter time will be applied by delaying the clock by 60 minutes.
Daylight saving time was reinstated in Egypt on the last Friday of April 2023, after 7 years of cancellation. Under this time, the clock was advanced by 60 minutes, based on a decision by the Egyptian Council of Ministers. The aim of implementing daylight saving time was to rationalize energy consumption, such as electricity, gasoline, diesel and gas.
According to the law, daylight saving time is applied by advancing the clocks by 60 minutes from the last Friday of April until the end of the last Thursday of October every year. Therefore, as the end of October approaches, winter time will be returned by delaying the clocks by 60 minutes, which means that citizens will set their clocks back by a full hour.
