Arab Weather - Meteorologists at the Arab Weather Regional Center said that the latest outputs from computer weather models monitoring the movement of air masses in the atmosphere near the Earth's surface indicate the movement of an air mass with cooler temperatures than usual for this time of year from Eastern Europe toward the Eastern Mediterranean, causing a noticeable drop in temperatures, especially at night and dawn.
The rush of this extremely cold air mass towards the eastern Mediterranean coincides with the last days of winter and the beginning of spring, which will fall on Thursday, March 20, 2025, God willing. The same air mass is causing the return of winter weather.
As a result, temperatures are expected to be below average for this time of year in the Levant, Jordan, Iraq, and the northern Arabian Peninsula this weekend. During the day, the weather will be close to the cold winter of early spring, with highs reaching winter levels in Beirut, Damascus, Jerusalem, Amman, and Baghdad, especially at night, and in the Tabuk, Al-Jawf, and Northern Border regions in northern Saudi Arabia.
During the night hours, especially after midnight and early morning, the weather becomes unsuitable for outdoor sessions in the aforementioned areas, due to the cold weather and the sharp drop in minimum temperatures, which may reach only about 3-5 degrees Celsius, especially in the eastern regions of Jordan and Syria, western Iraq, and northwestern Saudi Arabia. (The minimum temperatures are the coldest in several days.) Therefore, "Arab Weather" advises wearing heavy winter clothing to suit the cold weather during the night hours.
With the expected temperature differences in the coming days, there is expected to be significant temperature differences between day and night, ranging between 15-20 degrees Celsius compared to the current situation. Accordingly, we warn of the risks of temperature differences and extreme cold weather, especially at night, which may increase the chances of catching a cold and seasonal diseases, especially among children.
The same air mass is expected to be accompanied by significant amounts of moisture in various layers of the atmosphere, creating a favorable environment for rainfall in several regions of the Levant, sometimes heavy, especially in the coastal areas of the Levant. Active to strong winds will blow, stirring up dust waves in several regions of the Syrian desert, Iraq, and northern Saudi Arabia.
And God knows best.
