With the increase in fuel prices, use electric cars in public taxis in Jordan

Weather of Arabia - Jordan is going to grant a license for "electric vehicles" and small "hatchbacks" to be used as a "public taxi", according to what was announced by the Director General of the Jordanian Land Transport Regulatory Authority, Tariq Al-Habashneh.

Habashneh said that the authority has addressed the concerned authorities to proceed with taking the decision, in order to relieve the workers in the sector in light of the rise in fuel prices.

The spokesman for the authority, Abla Weshah, indicated that this address is the first step in studying the specifications of these cars only.

She explained that "the authority will study the specifications required by the Syndicate of Public Car Owners, in addition to the pricing for calculating wages based on the new tariff, whether there are fully electric vehicles or not."

She pointed out that this study depends on the approval of the recommendation made regarding whether to allow the use of electric vehicles or not.

It is noteworthy that the government agencies concerned with the transport sector have begun to think of solutions that reduce the effects of rising fuel prices globally, which is pushing many to go towards electric vehicles.

The Petroleum Derivatives Pricing Committee at the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources decided in early June to raise the prices of gasoline, diesel and kerosene by $0.49 per liter, in order to implement the approved pricing mechanism according to the petroleum derivatives pricing equation by the end of 2022.

The head of the Jordanian Free Zones Authority, Muhammad Al Bustanji, confirmed that the Jordanian market is able to cover the increased demand for electric vehicles if the recommendation is approved, ruling out the increase in their prices due to the increase in demand, noting that the increase in demand may lead to a decrease in the prices of spare parts and the prices of batteries with their abundance. better.

And he indicated that the life span of the batteries has become long-term, some of which reach one million kilometers, which removes the obstacle to the transformation of this type of vehicle.
