Arab Weather - After news spread about the dangers of air fryers exploding, new research revealed that this home appliance could turn into a "spy" that tracks your personal data and listens to your conversations, with the aim of sending information to manufacturing companies. This warning was issued by experts at the Canadian retail company "Henry Rosen", and was reported by the British newspaper "Daily Mail".
The experts analyzed three types of air fryers sold in the UK, and ranked the devices based on six main categories: consent, transparency, data security, data minimization, tracking, and data deletion. Based on these criteria, Henry Rosen gave each product an overall privacy score. The analysis revealed that the devices required users’ precise location and permission to record their phone conversations.
The research results showed that smart air fryer manufacturers can easily collect personal data from users, as many consumers provide their personal data clearly, without realizing the risks. The experts gave examples of this, including that an app linked to the air fryer connected to trackers from Facebook and TikTok, in addition to Chinese apps such as "Bingle" and "Tencent". While one fryer asked users for additional data such as gender and date of birth when they created an account through the app.
A company spokesperson said that the audio recording permission does not apply to the smart air fryer app and stressed that these apps do not rely on voice commands or video chat directly.
Another company spokesperson said that privacy is a priority for them, and that their smart products comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and internal compliance requirements.
