Arab Weather - The abbreviation MJO stands for Madden-Julian Oscillation, or what is known as the "Madden-Julian Oscillation". It is a pattern of atmospheric oscillation that occurs in tropical regions, and greatly affects global weather.
The Madden–Julian Oscillation is a system of atmospheric activity that moves across the tropics, moving from west to east across the tropical Indian and Pacific Oceans, and affects rainfall and wind patterns in those regions. This oscillation occurs over a period of 30 to 60 days, and affects weather systems in parts of the world, such as stimulating tropical storms and increasing the chances of rainfall.
The MJO is important to meteorologists because it influences things like the development of tropical cyclones, the intensity of phenomena like El Niño and La Niña, and contributes to medium-range weather forecasts.
