Arab Weather - Singapore Airlines announced yesterday that it had offered compensation worth $10,000 to passengers who suffered minor injuries on board a Boeing flight that faced violent turbulence last month, and it intends to discuss greater compensation for those who suffered severe injuries.
In May 2024, a 73-year-old British man died on board flight SQ321 coming from London, and several passengers and crew members suffered injuries to the skull, brain, and spine.
The Singaporean Ministry of Transport stated that the sudden drop of the plane while flying at an altitude of 54 meters caused a violent fall for passengers who were not wearing seat belts, resulting in minor and severe injuries.

A preliminary report indicated that the plane experienced a “rapid change” in the force of gravity as it passed over southern Myanmar, and the investigation team included experts from the Transportation Safety Investigation Office, the US National Transportation Safety Board, the US Federal Aviation Administration, and Boeing, which manufactured the plane.
Under the Montreal Convention, airlines are liable for damages resulting from injury or death to passengers while they are on board.
Singapore Airlines said in a statement on Tuesday that it had sent emails offering compensation of $10,000 to passengers who sustained minor injuries during the accident and for those who sustained more serious injuries, the company invited them to discuss compensation to meet their specific circumstances when they are ready.
The company explained that passengers who were medically evaluated as seriously injured and in need of long-term medical care will receive an advance payment of $25,000 to meet their urgent needs, and this payment will be part of the final compensation.
The company also confirmed that it will refund the price of airline tickets to all passengers on the flight, including those who were not infected, and all passengers will also receive delay compensation in accordance with European Union and United Kingdom regulations.
